Harakeke

Purpose: Inform (share our knowledge and facts)

The story about the harakeke is that the rito (baby) is in the middle and then the awhi rito (parents) are on the outside of the baby to keep the baby safe.  Also the tupuna (grandparents) are on the outside of the mum and dad.

Here is some information about harakeke.  Harakeke is also known as flax.  Flax is often found in a garden.  Before you cut the flax say a karakia.  You have to say a karakia because I think your telling the grandparents that you are about to cut them.  Don't cut the harakeke in the rain.  You must  cut the harakeke when it’s not in flower.   When you are finished cutting the flax, the left overs must be cut up small and put under the plant to help it grow.   You can`t be messy, keep the space you are working in tidy.

These are my duffy books.  The first book is called Justice league vs Bizarro league. This book is about wonder woman batman and super man.  The last one is called the cat and the mouse in the haunted house by geronimo stilton.

how to weave a box

Equipment

Scissors

Ruler

Paper

Sellotape

 pen/pencil

instructions/method

1. Gather all your equipment so you're ready to start.
2. Measure ten strips of paper 1 cm And 30 centimetre long.
3. Cut strips of paper
4. place 5 strips of paper on the mat next to each other about   2 centimetres apart.
5.  Grab a strip and weave it through the strips on the mat.
6. repeat  step 5 using the   4 strips remaining.
7.  Once step 6 is  complete carefully push   the Strps  together Until they meet
8. sellotape to help the strips in place
9.  to make the sides of box fold the outside strips back over the base (to keep the sides straight fold the strips using the linen of the base as your guide) .  
10. Cut out 4 more strips that are 24 cm long and 1cm wide.
11. Take 1 strip and fold it into 4 quarters (to give it 4 corners)
12. With the same strip weave it through the sides of the box.
13. Tape each corner to keep the strip in place.
14. Repeat steps 12 and 13 with the 3 strips remaining.
15. To finish the box make sure you fold any other strips and tape it down.
